  Kanchipuram District (Tamil Nadu)  
 
 

     Kanchipuram/ Kanchi, is a district in the northeast of Tamil Nadu, adjacent to the Bay of Bengal. It had a population of 2,877,468 as per the 2001 census. 53.34% of the district is urbanised as per Census 2001.In Kanchipuramin the rural areas there is about 95% of Non- Christians.The literacy of the district is 76.61%.Mostly Vanniyar community people are occupied in this district. The city of Kanchipuram has its historical significance of being the capital of the Pallava Kingdom from 4th Century AD. It is also known as the Temple City of South India. Kanchipuram is located on the Palar River, and known for its temples and silk sarees which are woven manually. In the villages of this District very less christian work has been done till now. No electricity connection is available in these areas. People are addicted to local liquor called 'charayam'. It is a potential area with lot of children who are not having enough access to good schooling. The main occupation of the people is agriculture. Their parents are enthusiastic to give their children a better education if available. But they are very poor to send their children to good schools. Education is the only means through which we can reach to the people. Therefore we have started tuition centers and evening schools in these areas.

     Siridhavoor, located 48 km from Chennai, this small village has very less access to many of the modern amenities found in the city. According to our survey the there are only one percentage of Christians in this area. The main occupation of the people is agriculture. .Here Pastor Luke is working among the locals. We have started a tuition center where about 40 children regularly attend the classes. We have plans to expand it into a strong bible study group. A church has also been constructed were worship services are held regularly. Echoor, is located 85 from Chennai. Pastor Amos is ministering among the villagers. We have about 20 children are attending our tuition center. An evening school has been started in this area. There are about 10-15 adults attending the Sunday worship.

     Kayar, a village where the Nayaik tribe has the predominance. The tribe has almost 800 people living in the village. By the Grace of God we have a dedicated servant of God Bro. Paul Balaram working among these tribal people. We have established a church having 45 believers. The believers are also working in the nearby villages of Kunathur and Pekaranai by distributing tracts to the people of these areas.

      Kellambakam, a tailoring institute has been started in this area under the leadership of Pastor Aron. The Tailoring Course was started with a vision to impart skill and training to the unemployed women and youth of that locality. With a vision of imparting employment skills to the youth, we also intend to introduce them to the Savoir.

Pastor Aron is the director of the organization Assembly of Saints and Development Services. He is also heading the I.C.M. Healing Gospel Church in Kelambakam. During the vacation in the month of June a Vacation Bible School was conducted under the leadership of Pastor Aron. Children of 30 churches of the nearby locality attended the class. In all there has been 15 such classes conducted till now. Through the means of such classes our main aim is to set up a launch pad for the young kids to be aware of ,and discover the love of the Savoir.
